The sun is shining now and according to the Garrett College Weather Page the temps are a 54 beautiful degrees and the snow is melting gradually at this time. They are however calling for rain this evening and thunder storms on Friday. The state of Maryland has issued the following warning to beware of the ice on Deep Creek Lake.
According to the High Mountain Sports Buzz that I get in my email the Maryland Department of the Environment has given Brookfield Energy permission to lower the level of the lake below the lower rule band on Deep Creek Lake. The lower rule band for the end of March is generally 2,458' and as of yesterday the level of the lake is 2,451'. This means the water is well below the ice which is becoming very slushy from the high temps and is not supported by the water making for very dangerous conditions. Hopefully we will not get the amount of rain they are calling for and the snow will continue to melt slowly instead of causing flooding conditions. All I really know is that I saw daffodils this morning beside of Pete's driveway, the birds are chirping and the sun is shining and it feels like spring is on its way. I hope so!
