Six more weeks of bad weather or not. I think we always have 6 more weeks of bad weather regardless. Anyway, since I always get it confused shadow or no shadow, 6 more weeks or not, I thought I would just Google "Groundhog Day" and of course they have an official site. www.groundhog.org Some very interesting facts about Punxsutawney Phil, that's a long name :)
The first official Groundhog day was February 2, 1887
Phil was named after King Phillip, prior to that he was referred to as Br'er Groundhog (Interesting!)
Phil is allegedly 120 years old, apparently he drinks the "elixir of life" every year at the annual Groundhog picnic and it miraculously adds another 7 years to his life. (It's true, read it on their website.)
And to answer the question, shadow or no shadow, 6 more weeks or not, we will just have to wait and see what Phil tells us.
Oh yeah, if Phil sees his shadow there will be 6 more weeks, if he does not you can count on an early spring. Now the old timers tell me you can count on February having more snow than January this year. How do they know? I don't know, but what the old timers say always seems to be right. I guess we'll get what we get and it sure makes for great skiing and pretty pictures.
