Let me show you our project for the season. The Dove Center along with the Garrett County Chamber of
Commerce, community leaders, and countless volunteers have organized a really great fund raiser called the Festival of Trees. The event is to take place November 26-30 at the Oakland Community Center formerly (The Armory). They are asking exhibitors to either donate a decorated Christmas Tree, Wreath, Gingerbread House or Christmas Cake. The exhibits will be on display the 26-30 and will be auctioned off at the Mistletoe Magic Auction and Party on Saturday Evening, November 29. So, since my mother & I have baked and decorated wedding cakes as long as I can remember, it only seemed appropriate that we would take on the task of creating a Gingerbread House for this event. I mentioned the idea to Rosie and she was ecstatic. As of yesterday we have 10 days to create our masterpiece. Our theme, Christmas on the Harvey Farm. Why that theme, well we have decided to duplicate the original farmhouse (The Preview Center) here at Ridgeview. It seemed only appropriate that we name the project after the farms heritage of Mr. Earl Harvey who lived here from the time he was 6 until he was well past 90 and still Mr. Earl comes to visit just about everyday so long as the weather is good. I doubt that I will see him today since it is dumping down the snow and we are to get 8-10 inches over night. By the way Mr. Earl is 97 this year. I think he would enjoy his home being memorialized in sweet confection. So, yesterday, Sunday, Rosie came over to the Preview Center and we started our project by creating our farmhouse template. It was quite hilarious the two of us measuring each room inside to try to get the outside dimension of the house, we could have gone outside, ick, it was snowing and 29 degrees, so we looked quite funny trying to figure it out from the inside. Rosie was the engineer and I was the handy helper, I manned the roll of tape. Have I mentioned that Rosie is brilliant. I would have been lost creating the scale size model of the house, but like I said she is brilliant and check out what we ended up with. Pretty impressive even if I do say so myself. Of course we were not alone, Pete was there with his camera laughing uncontrollably at us. Rosie was the structural engineer for the template and now I am in charge. Tonight I start baking and then it is assembly. So far so good, I hope the rest of the project goes this smoothly. I will keep you posted.

Good luck with the cake, Paula! You and Rosie must have had quite a good time putting the template together. I can't wait to see a picture of the finished product!
