Well Tim must have been telling his Mom about our Gingerbread antics, because when I saw her last evening she asked if the Gingerbread House for the Festival of Trees was finished. I said "Oh, no we have to bake it all tonight, we just built the template on Sunday." She said, "Oh, I thought it was a kit that you purchased." No way baby, this is from scratch, completely 100% from scratch. I know this because Tim & I spent 3 hours last evening mixing, rolling, cutting, baking, and trimming gingerbread. We have two more pieces to bake tonight and then the adventure of gluing or icing it all together. Oh, by the way I can't forget to get the board from Jeff for it to sit on. The house should turn out to be about 23x23 with the porches attached, so I guess the base for it to sit on will be about 32x32 if that will fit through my front door. I have to say last night went a lot easier than I had anticipated, the dough is very easy to work with and very easy to trim up after baking, not to mention it really does taste great. So far I have used two full batches of mix, consisting of 12 eggs and 12 cups of flour and all of the other miscellaneous baking stuff. I will make another 1/2 batch tonight to finish the baking leg of the project. Then onto gluing it together. I am a little nervous about the icing recipe, it is different than what my Mom & I used in the past. So far we have about 7 hours in the project including making the template and baking. Here are some photos from last evening.
