We are on our way to creating a full fledge gingerbread house for the Festival of Trees to raise money for the Dove Center. So far Rosie & I have created the template, modeling the project after the Preview Center here at Ridgeview Valley. Then Tim & I spent 2 evenings baking the bread, which by the way is very tasty and most importantly sturdy. Last evening Tim started cutting windows and doors with his Dremel tool.
As he was trimming out windows and doors I started making the hard tack candy to fill the windows.
We started with an idea I saw on the web where you just melt hard candies and pour in the frames. This worked well but used a lot of candy. We had 1.5 pounds of spearmint hard tack and that filled only 3 windows. So, I then decided to make my own. We have 14 windows and in addition to the aforementioned candy, I made another 2 batches of homemade hard tack. Tim was happy he now has grape and apple hard tack to eat.
Here is the results of our efforts. Not bad, don't ask why we used green candy instead of yellow. We thought it would be interesting and it is.
