While Michal Phelps' Mom and sisters were in town for Autumn as the Grand Marshals the Cumberland Times was able to get an interview with them. Interestingly enough the rumors I heard about her being from Westernport and visiting Deep Creek Lake as a girl are not rumors at all and are confirmed in this article. It was a pleasure to welcome them home again.

SNOW! SNOW! AND MORE SNOW! IN DEEP CREEK LAKE
Can you believe it, the first snow fall of the season and we get 7 inches and temps that feel like 17 degrees with 3 more inches in the forecast. Here is a picture that Pete took for me of the snow accumulation. This photo is Pete & Rosie's deck, it is protected from the wind and gives a true measurement of snow fall. All of the decks and porches at my office are exposed to the wind and do not give accurate accumulations. The beautiful wet wintry mix that has moved through the county seems to have caught us off guard well at least it surprised me. Garrett County schools had a 2 hour delay while neighboring counties in West Virginia canceled all together. Snow plow trucks are out in full force cleaning up the streets and now I know that my 4-wheel drive works great in my new Jeep. The out of the ordinary early snow fall up here in the mountains has everyone talking. Read Frank Roylance's blog from The Baltimore Sun . My pal Marta from the Deep Creek Times has a really cool snow fall chart showing accumulation since 1940, check it out. I wonder if all of the old timers are going to be right again this year. I have always been told that when the fruits and veggies are plentiful, look out, it's going to be a long winter. I don't think anyone in Garrett County would complain about that. For anyone traveling west Maryland State Highway has road conditions online.

Fall Color in Ridgeview Valley
Pete's been at it again. He sure is the shutterbug. I hope you enjoy his photos as much as I do. Here are the fall colors in Ridgeview.
The first picture is the entrance as you drive up Gravelly Run Road. We have a lot of maple trees, which are the beautiful bright reds and then turn to an amazing shade of bright pink. The farm that is now Ridgeview was once known for its maple syrup. That's why we have so many red leaves. The second picture is looking out my office window. The third photo is of Deep Creek Lake, taken from Rt. 219 in the vicinity of Bill's Marine Service looking toward the Deep Creek Lake State Park.

Fall Colors at Deep Creek Lake
A friend of mine, Rick Schiff, was out hiking on the top of Wisp Mountain and took this great shot of Deep Creek Lake. We have truly been blessed with a colorful season. And the lake has a calming stillness to it this time of the year. The single speed boat is probably on its way to winter storage. I always get a feeling of nostalgia during this season, I guess because things slow down a little and remind me of younger years on the lake. I would love to post some lake memories and vintage pictures if you send them to me.

Autumn Glory Festival & Rosie's Birthday Party
Wow, what a busy weekend. Last weekend was the Autumn Glory Festival and Rosie's Surprise Birthday Party."Rosie" is Rosemary Versteegen and one of the partners in Ridgeview. Her real birthday was in August and I won't tell you how old she is, but here are some photos of the Autumn Glory Festival and her birthday party courteous of Peter her husband. He takes lots of photos and I love to show them off.
To the left is our friend Ray Miller from Pleasant Valley Dream Rides in his Cinderella carriage. We love it when he brings the team down for rides up to the ridge. The color in the photo below of a guest marching band is amazing. The fall colors were perfect for the festival. No wonder it is the #1 festival in the world.
All of Rosie's Family was in for her birthday and they all went to watch the parade in Oakland on Saturday before coming back to Ridgeview to party the night away in the barn. Pictured left to right are Abby,Audry, Thaddeus, Claudia,
